The pre-memorial landscape is overlaid with an aerial view from April 1966. Two parallel farm drains that collect ground water along their swath are evident.
These were piped, covered and used to emerge in the Sunken Fernery as its two waterways.
The pre '62 re-alignment of the Mangaohoi stream is also evident in the top left of the image comparison.
